You Should Ping Your Resume

That's right. You should be pinging your resume every single day, but do you even know what pinging even means? According to Wikipedia, it is, " an XML-RPC-based push mechanism by which a weblog notifies a server that its content has been updated." Does that make any sense? In layman's terms, it is the equivalent of you saying, "Hey, I'm over here. Come look at me!"
And no matter where you are in your job search, everyone needs that attention. It's that attention that gets you job! Did you know that 98% of all job seekers do not know this secret? That means you are only competing with 2%! What great odds!
How do I ping my resume? It's easy. A pinged resume is an updated resume. According to Monster.com, a good way to keep your keywords current is to scan job postings that match your career target and note the keywords that appear repeatedly. Incorporate these keywords that match your background into your resume. This is just step 1 because you can only insert the keywords once. We explain this in much more detail on our website in our section how to find your dream job. Click here!

Step 2: You must "change" your resume every day to bring your resume to the top of the list for all employers to see. With all job boards, this "change" can be as small as moving one letter or adding a space after your name. You can even switch back and forth between words every other day. Meaning, a sentence in your resume start with, "Responsible for... ". You can change it to, "Charged with ___" on Monday and then Tuesday put it back to "Responsible for ___". Then on Wednesday back to "Charged with ___" And so on and so forth. Get the idea?
Where should you be pinging your resume? On all major and niche job boards such as CareerBuilder, Monster, Dice, Craigslist, Indeed, CoolWorks and any other niche websites you can think of.
Let me walk you through what happens when you post your resume to any one of these job boards. You're on at Monday at Noon to post your resume. It is up and running and first in the keyword list. Then by dinner time, a new couple thousand people have posted their resume and thus pushed your resume to page 20 of the job search. That's it; that's what happens. But let's think of it in a different analogy. When you search Google, do you go to page 20 to find what you are looking for? Or just scan through page 1 and 2?
Why would you expect a recruiter or hiring manager to be different? They don't want to go to page 20 nor do they have the time to do so. When employers search posted resumes for keywords, they tend to look at the first 30, 50, 100 resumes or however many they feel they need to look at. Once they find what they are looking for, their search is complete. Therefore, you get looked over; thus, why you need to ping your resume.
When you ping your resume, you are saying to all the recruiters and hiring managers, "Hey, I'm over here. Come look at me!" Just like Facebook or LinkedIn, if you want to stay relevant on your friends' newsfeeds, you have to post things daily, otherwise you get lost in the crowd. Same goes for your resume on these job search websites! Why wouldn't you do it? Don't do a disservice to yourself by just posting your resume and walking away and HOPING someone will come along and read it.
This simple tweak to your job searching efforts will put you right in front of every employer's job search and will get you more resume views than imagined. So go ahead, start pinging your resume and get noticed!
